Up-trend in rice price continues

          The prices of rice maintained an upward trend while those for other essential commodities remained unchanged in the city markets over the past week, traders said.
The traders said in the wholesale markets prices of almost all varieties of rice including coarse and finer varieties registered a hike by Tk 10 and Tk 20 per maund.
During the week BRRI variety of rice was being sold between Tk 510 and Tk 520 compared with Tk 490 and Tk 500 per maund previously, the traders said.
The Lata-28 rice was selling between Tk 570 and Tk 590 per maund against its previous rates between Tk 560 and Tk 570 per maund, the traders said.
They said Minicate rice was being sold between Tk 710 and Tk 720 per maund compared with previous rates between Tk 700 and Tk 710.
The Paari variety of rice was being sold between Tk 580 and Tk 600 per maund against 570 and Tk 580 previously. Nazirshail rice was being sold between Tk 680 and Tk 700 per maund against previous Tk 670 and Tk 680, the traders said.
They said the prices of coarse rice rose by Tk 1.0 to Tk 17-Tk 19 per kg at the retail levels. The finer rice was selling between Tk 22 and 23 per kg compared with previous Tk 21 and Tk 22 per kg, the traders said.
Traders at the Badamtoli wholesale market said the prices of rice registered an upward trend in the markets mainly due to short supply from the countryside.
In the vegetable markets brinjal was being sold between Tk 16 and Tk 18 per kg, unchanged from the previous week.
Tomato and different varieties of beans were selling between Tk 12 and 14 per kg at the retail level.
Flour in one kg packet was selling between Tk 19 and Tk 20 while its two kg packet was selling between Tk 38 and Tk 40 in the city markets during the past week, the traders said.
Canned edible oil of different brands containing five litres was selling between Tk 265 and Tk 270 at the retail markets.
Sugar was selling between Tk 30 and Tk 32 per kg in the city markets over the past week, the traders said.
