PARIS, Jan 14 (AFP): The number of foreigners confirmed by their countries of origin as having died in the tsunamis that swept south Asia stood at 416 Thursday, but thousands of others were reported as missing, believed dead, and many more were unaccounted for. The confirmed death toll was expected to rise as new identifications were completed and missing persons were declared dead. In Thailand, where the biggest numbers of foreign tourists were holidaying, the interior ministry said that there were 1,240 foreigners among the 5,313 people confirmed dead and another 1,063 foreigners out of 3,254 people still reporting missing.
