Roger Federer strolled to an easy 6-4 6-2 victory over British number one Tim Henman in the Kooyong Invitational, reports BBC. The Swiss world number one will play American Andy Roddick in Saturday's final in Melbourne. Henman will use the round-robin format for one more warm-up match before facing France's Cyril Saulnier in his opening game of the Australian Open. "It was another important stepping stone in being ready and raring to go come Monday or Tuesday," said Henman. "It is important to get out there in a match environment in these types of conditions. "You would like to win these matches but I am really happy with the way things have progressed since I have been here." Henman was broken in the third game of the match and again in the seventh when he missed an easy overhead. The 30-year-old broke straight back but Federer served out to love to take the set. Two further breaks of serve in the second set saw Federer seal victory with an ace in just 61 minutes. Federer said: "I thought it was a good match. "I am really happy with the way things are going. My second match was much better than my first here [against Gaston Gaudio] and I have the feeling that my game is heading in the right direction." In consolation round matches, Olympic champion Nicolas Massu was forced to retire against Argentine David Nalbandian because of an injury to his left foot. Nalbandian led 6-4 2-1 when Massu, who had a hernia operation in November, quit. But the Chilean said he hoped to be fit for the Australian Open. "That's why I retired," he said. "If I [had] to play the tournament now, I think I'm going to play, but it's going to be difficult for me. "Five-set matches after surgery are always difficult." In the day's other match, Croat Ivan Ljubicic beat French Open champion Gaudio 6-4 6-4.
