Foundation of Narandi-China Friendship Complex laid

          NARSINGDI, Jan 14 (BSS): The foundation stone of Narandi-China Friendship Complex at Narandi village under Monohardi Upazila of the district was laid Thursday.
Chinese Ambassador in Bangladesh Chai Xi laid the foundation stone at a simple ceremony organised at Narandi Free Primary School playground.
The construction of the complex, financed by the Chinese government, is expected to be completed within a few months. The complex will have a library, a computer-training centre and music and vocational training facilities.
Presided over by the News Today Editor and the National Press Club President Reazuddin Ahmed, the function was also addressed, among others, by Sardar Shakhawat Hossain Bakul MP, Mrs. Chai Xi, National Press Club General Secretary Shawkat Mahmud, former secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Sohel Ahmed, Dhaka University Professor Habiba Khatun and ADC General of Narsingdi Mir Mosharraf Hossain.
The Chinese Ambassador said Bangladesh and China are tested friends for long. He said 30 years' friendship anniversary was observed in both the countries and leaders of the two countries discussed ways to further develop the relations.
He said China is ready to support development efforts of Bangladesh. He said Narandi-China Friendship Complex will be built following a Chinese architectural design and materials and instruments of the complex would be brought from China.
Reazuddin Ahmed thanked the Ambassador for taking up the programme to build Narandi-China friendship complex at the village, where he spent his childhood. Shakhawat Hossain Bakul expressed satisfaction over the close ties existing between the two countries.
Earlier, the villagers of Narandi organised a cultural function in honour of the Chinese envoy.
