MONGLA, Jan 16 BSS): Agriculture Minister MK Anwar has underscored the need for strengthening extension activities of agriculture department aimed at motivating the farmers to diversify crops. He was speaking at a meeting on agricultural activities of Jessore region at Mongla Port Rest House Sunday, an official handout said. Acting Director General of Agriculture Extension Department(AED) Enamul Haque Miah and agriculture officials of different districts of Jessore region including Bagherhat were present on the occasion. The meeting was informed that farmers of 10 districts of Jessore region have been producing paddy, wheat, maize, oil seed, potato, pulse, species and different kinds of vegetables. A total of 60,000 hectares of land of the region are being brought under these crops during the current season. But, Bagherhat, Satkhira and Khulna districts have not yet got desired success in crop diversification due to natural limitation. Anwar visited the 'Golpata' forest in the Sundarbans where 67,000 tonnes of 'Golpata' are produced annually. He also visited Mehar Ali's Char to see the fish processing zone of the area.
