First pvt land phone service from Feb

          The first private land phone company of the country - Bay-Phones - will commence service from February next. An expatriate Bangladeshi in USA and chairman of the company Abul Hashem Sunday disclosed this while he called on Minister for Post and Telecommunications Aminul Haq at his secretariat office Sunday. He informed the minister that the new land phone will be run by latest technologies from America and it will be equipped with call waiting, call forwarding, call hunting, voice mail, internet and other modern facilities. The company will operate its services in Chittagong, Chittagong Hill Tracts, Noakhali and Comilla areas at the initial stages targeting 100,000 subscribers. The line-rent has been fixed at Tk 150 and call charge Tk 1.50 for first five minutes. The rate of phone connection will be Tk 9,000 and intended subscribers will get phone connections within 48 hours of filing applications. — BSS
