7 Indian nationals arrested in Sylhet
10/10/2005

SYLHET, Oct 9(UNB): Police arrested seven Indian nationals, along with their two local hosts, on Saturday night for illegal entry into Bangladesh.
The Indian people, among whom were four women, were held on Sylhet-Tamabil road as they "entered into Bangladesh territory illegally without passport," police said.
All the detained Indians hailed from the eastern Indian State of Monipur. The Indians said they were going to Kamalganj in Moulvibazar district to perform songs at a Durga Puja festival.
The trespassers were identified as Dimu Sharma, Jadu Singh, 35, Ganeswar Debi, 38, Apa Devi, 36, Rina Bala Debi, 30, Nambi Debi, 35, and Inausa Singh, 28.
The two others detained were identified as Bangladeshi nationals-- Keshor Singh, 23, son of Babu Singh, and Krishna Kumar Singh, 27, son of Babul Singh, of Kamalganj.
Acting on a tip-off, a police squad led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sayed Mahbubur Rahman halted a microbus heading towards Sylhet at Pirerbazar at midnight and detained the nine suspects.
Police said Keshor Singh and Krishna Kumar Singh received the Indian nationals around 9pm at Ballaghat of Jaflong in Sylhet and were taking them to Kamalganj by microbus.
Keshor told police that they brought them for singing at their Durga Puja function, the greatest festival of Hindu community that began across the country Sunday.
A case was filed with Kotwali police station. The arrested persons were produced in a magistrate court Sunday and the court ordered them to be put in jail custody.
