Hazards of shopping during Ramadan
10/10/2005

SOON after the month of Ramadan began, people have started facing incidents like mugging and pick pocketing. A group of people is now on the busy streets and market to snatch or pickpocket money, mobile phones, goods from the people taking advantage of heavy crowd in the marketplace or in the street. But so far people have not seen any initiative taken by the government to control the situation.
In the past, we experienced this kind of unwanted incidents as soon as the month of fasting started. But the increase in their number and intensity has created panic among the people who have to go the shopping centres for their Ramadan and Eid marketing. Unfortunately, such incidents steal the very delight of Ramadan or Eid shopping from the hearts of the customers in this holy month.
Although, government used its special force, RAB, during Eid festival last year, it could not however combat the crime entirely. There were one or two panicky incidents reported last year. So it is our fervent request to the government to identify the troublemakers and manage the rush of people towards the city so that the greatest festival of Muslim ummah could be enjoyed by all.
