Prices of commodities mark fresh increase with Ramadan
Our Correspondent

CHITTAGONG, Oct 9: With the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan the port-city dwellers experienced another round of price-spiral of essential commodities.
An upward trend in the price of all goods including vegetables persisted in the city markets.
Prices of onion and pulse have increased up to Tk 10 to 12 per kg, once more putting city-dwellers to an unenviable situation during the Ramadan.
The main Iftar item chhola, which was sold at Tk 30 per kg earlier, has now jumped to Tk 40, causing woe to the fasting masses.
At the same time, the price of Aral-pulse, the main ingredient for preparing Halim, a tasty Iftar item has also registered an abnormal rise. From the previous price of Tk 35 per Kg it has made a quantum leap to Tk 85 per Kg.
The consumers apprehend, if strict and quick vigilance is not enforced in the city markets during the month of Ramadan, unabated price-hike cannot be controlled.
While visiting some kitchen markets, including Chawkbazar, Reazuddin Bazar and Bahaddarhat the vendors were found realising enhanced prices of almost all items.
