Adulterated poultry feeds put farm owners in dire straits
Our Correspondent
10/10/2005

BRAHMANBARIA, Oct 9: Adulterated poultry feeds and price hike of the veterinary foodstuffs have put the poultry farm owners of the district in a dire straits, sources said.
According to the sources, a section of dishonest traders are mixing substandard stuffs like husks of paddy, oil cake and dust with poultry feeds and selling those in the markets to earn windfall profits.
This has been causing various fatal diseases to the poultry birds resulting in deaths of a large number of poultry birds everyday, they added.
There are about 2000 poultry and 150 duck farms in the district. Besides, hundreds of rural people raise a number of poultry birds domestically.
The poultry birds of these farms are solely dependent on the feeds sold in the local markets.
It is alleged that prices of poultry feeds have registered a sharp rise in the markets of the district that is also seriously affecting the poultry farms of the district.
Meanwhile, a sharp rise in the prices of preventive medicines has also been affecting the poultry farms.
According to a recent market survey, poultry medicines such as casumix plus (H), poleaxe and CSBS proclivity are selling at exorbitant prices.
In this situation, the poultry farm owners in the district have urged the government to take an urgent remedial measure.
