Attack on temple, church
Panic grips Pirgachha, Badarganj

          RANGPUR, Oct 15 (BDNEWS): Panic gripped Pirgachha and Badarganj upazilas of the district over damaging a temple and a church while police arrested seven people in connection with two separate incidents of attack.
According to local people and police sources, a group of unruly youths, allegedly under the banner of ruling BNP, attacked Haribashar temple in Pirgachha Upazila and set ablaze two houses leaving five people injured.
The injured-- Bejbala, Birbal, Tarubala, Shadhuchandra Das and Minoti-- were admitted to the local health complex.
The injured Birbal filed a case with Pirgachha police station. Police arrested five people - Azadul, Rabbani, Noya Mia, Ibrahim and Shafiqul in this connection.
Local people alleged that police were reluctant after the incident. Police later set up a police camp at local Union Parishad council office.
Meanwhile, a gang of terrorists led by Badshah and Mojibor attacked tribal family members of Zahurul Raut and Ziten Raut Friday at Khoddobag area in Badarganj and set their houses ablaze accusing them of stealing two glasses, local people and police said.
During the attack, about 30-35 panicked people of the area took shelter at a nearby church when the attackers damaged windowpanes and walls of it.
They also tried to kidnap a young woman Babita Rani, but failed as the local people caught one of the attackers - Majibor-- and handed him over to police.
