Man escapes Pakistani jail to land in Indian prison

          SRINAGAR, India, Oct 15 (AFP): An Indian, who fled Pakistan after the earthquake razed the prison in which he was held, has been arrested in Indian Kashmir after crossing the de facto border, a senior army official said Saturday. He identified the prisoner only as Zubair, a resident of Uri district, but did not reveal his crimes--AFP.
Blast in Ankara car park, no casualties
ANKARA, Oct 15: An explosion in an Anakara car park damaged several vehicles and shattered the windows of nearby buildings late Friday, officials said, adding that there were no casualties. Ankara police chief Ercument Yilmaz told Anatolia news agency that the cause of the blast in the building in the commercial district of Maltepe was not immediately clear .Bomb experts with sniffer dogs searched the multi-storey car park after the explosion, which occurred on the ground floor-- AFP..
Russian province in mourning after attacks
NALCHIK, (Russia), Oct 15: Officials declared a day of mourning Saturday in Russia's southern province of Kabardino-Balkaria following a brazen raid on the city of Nalchik by scores of Chechen gunmen that sparked two days of street battles and left at least 108 people dead. Flags on government buildings were flown at half-mast and police searched vehicles and checked documents at entry points to the city. Yet special forces who fought the militants Thursday and Friday were nowhere to be seen and life seemed to be returning to normal in the city--AFP.

Four immigrants killed as building collapses in Spain
MADRID, Oct 15: At least four immigrants were killed early Saturday when a three-storey building collapsed in a town near the northeastern city of Barcelona, the local fire service said. The cause of the explosion was not immediately clear. "Four people are dead, two were brought out of the rubble and taken to health centres and two others came out on their own," a fire service spokesman told AFP.
Pakistan to accept Israeli aid for quake victims
ISLAMABAD, Oct 15 (AFP) - Pakistan said Saturday it will accept any financial aid from Israel for victims of the devastating earthquake, as the Islamic republic cautiously warms up to the Jewish state after decades of hostility. "I think we have already clarified that, and the prime minister has said we have the president's relief fund into which anyone can contribute. There are no restrictions," foreign office spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam told AFP. "If Israel wants to contribute we have no objections," she added.
Taiwan seizes 1,500 smuggled Chinese birds amid flu fears
TAIPEI, Oct 15: Taiwan coastguards have confiscated some 1,500 birds smuggled from the Chinese mainland as the island steps up efforts to guard against deadly avian influenza, officials said Saturday. The birds, smuggled from the southeast Chinese city of Fuzhou, were found aboard a Panama-registered vessel in the island's central Taichung harbour Friday night, coastguard officials said--AFP.
Pakistan arrests 59 Indian fishermen for illegal entry
KARACHI, Oct 15: Pakistan has arrested 59 Indians and seized their boats after they were caught fishing illegally in Pakistani waters in the Arabian Sea, officials said Saturday. "We arrested 59 Indians on Friday night when they were about 40 kilometers (25 miles) inside our territorial waters," Maritime Security Agency spokesman Lieutenant Commander Ateequr Rehman told AFP.
