Leader of the Opposition and Awami League (AL) President Sheikh Hasina Wednesday said she is always ready to disclose the particulars of her assets and liabilities. Referring to a proposal of the Transparency International on the disclosure of assets by Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition to make them more transparent to the public, the AL chief said she does not have any objection to disclose her assets, report agencies. "I am a regular taxpayer and the people of the country know how much asset I have," she said talking to the family members of late Sumon Ahmed Jibon at her Dhanmondi residence. Jibon, general secretary of city ward 60 of Awami Swecchhasebak League, died in the police custody on August 18 this year. Hasina handed over a cheque of Tk 100,000 to Jibon's family that included his father Abdul Malek, wife Shahnaj Akhter Dolly, sisters Rani Alam and Sathi and only son, Rohan (3). The Leader of the Opposition, however, said the information about the Prime Minister might not be ascertained at all. "Why only the PM's wealth would be under consideration? Why not her sons and relatives taken under the counting?" she asked. Hasina lambasted the government, saying that its "unbounded corruption" led the country to the top of the list of corrupt countries for the fifth consecutive time in the Transparency International (TI) report. "To invest in Bangladesh, investors now have to pay tolls twice -- once for PM herself and again for her son," she said.
