Dhaka Club
FE Report
10/19/2005

It is considered as a prestigious and business friendly club in the city. Persons of elite groups and affluent members of society instinctively want to become members of this club. The Dhaka Club is a place where its members and their guests use free time for gossip, exchange views on issues, initiate negotiations and enjoy recreational moments.
Located between Ramna Park and Diabetic Hospital, the foundation of the club at its present place was laid in 1911. The founding members who signed the memorandum and articles of association on September 4, in that year were all Britishers. The first land was allotted by the Nawabs. The then government of Bengal leased out nearly 26 acres of land to the Dhaka Club in 1941 to develop the golf course, building and premises. However, the lands of Dhaka Club have been encroached from time to time to meet development needs.
The club offers facilities for tennis, squash, swimming, billiards, and snooker, card rooms, bar, bakery, library, and TV lounge. Special social events, cultural functions, seminars and dinner dances are organised.
The club is run on membership fees and donations from its members. It is restricted to the general public. The club has appeared as a unique place of socialisation for the elite and affluents.
