Deal signed on entrepreneurship dev for diversified jute products
FE Report
10/2/2005

The Jute Diversification Promotion Centre (JDPC) of the Ministry of Textiles and Jute and the Project Executing Agency (PEA) signed an agreement on implementing the project 'Small Scale Entrepreneurship Development in Diversified Jute Products'.
The project is intended to transfer technically viable and environmentally sound small scale technologies to manufacture jute-blended products for home textiles through establishing mini spinning plant and fibre chemical treatment plant.
It is also aimed at developing a culture of entrepreneurship by provision of risk capital and by organising and establishing rural production centres.
It would provide centralised support services in Bangladesh in the form of Raw Material Banks (RMBs) and Jute Entrepreneurs Service Centres (JESCs) offering technical and design support and market linkage.
Successful implementation of the project is expected to lead to rural employment generation, enhancement of income and help alleviate poverty.
Minister for Textiles and Jute Shajahan Siraj was present as the chief guest on the occasion with IJSG Secretary General AFM Sarwar Kamal in the chair.
The deal was signed by Md Fazlul Huq of the PEA and JDPC Executive Director ABM Abdullah at the IJSG Secretariat in the city Saturday.
The part of the project will be implemented in Bangladesh in next three years under the supervision of the IJSG and will be financed by the Common Fund for Commodities (CFC) of the Netherlands. The total cost of the project is about US$ 3.0 million, of which US$ 1.5 million will be utilised in Bangladesh.
The National Centre for Jute Diversification (NCJD), India -- the collaborating institution for Indian part of the project -- has already signed the PIA.
