The delegation led by the Dhaka Ahsania Mission (DAM) President Kazi Rafiqul Alam made the proposal when it met with Health Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain at his Secretariat office.
The delegation felt it is necessary to reach the community with cancer prevention strategy and programmes as early detection can save cancer patients.
They submitted a representation demanding specific actions in certain aspects of awareness creation and provision of service facilities for detection and treatment of breast cancer in the country by the government.
The delegation included former health secretary and AMCH Managing Director Mohd Fazlur Rahman, AMCH Director MA Hai, doctors and other executives of DAM were also present.
Kazi Rafiqul Alam emphasised the need for upazila and district level intervention for prevention and control of cancer.
The delegation also emphasised the role of government health education bureau in dissemination of cancer information and raising awareness of the issues of cancer among the people.
The minister expressed his satisfaction in the service of DAM including the cancer treatment services.
The minister urged private sector entrepreneurs to come up to develop the treatment in the country. Giving importance on the proposal of the delegation, he assured them of taking necessary initiatives by calling a meeting of the National Council for Cancer Control at an early date.
