99pc people suffer due to a few greedy persons: Kamal
10/30/2005

Ninety nine per cent of the country's 140 million (14 crore) people are being deprived of their socio-economic privileges and human rights due to a very few greedy people.
Gono Forum President and Jatiya Oikya Mancha Convener Kamal Hossain voiced this while speaking as the chief guest at the conference of Gono Forum's 71, 72 and 73 number wards of the capital at the Dhaka Bar Association Saturday, reports BDNEWS.
"One per cent people are piling resources by committing corruption in various ways. Unrestrained greed of money and power has made them corrupt and they are not restrained even in killing people", he said.
"The nation will have to get rid of this awful situation by awakening the conscience of the people. The year of 2006 will be the year of redemption", he added.
Hossain said the corrupt people are very few in number but very organised and powerful.
"The corrupt people are responsible for the price hike of the daily essentials. A very few number of people are instigating the sons of poor parents to launch bomb attacks in the name of religion to achieve their interests. They are destroying the country", the jurist said.
The Gono Forum president said the nation will have to be united against the crime, corruption, terrorism and communality to bring a meaningful change in the state and social systems.
"We had fought against the corrupts and criminals in the decades of 50, 60 and 70 with a view to establishing peace and democracy in the country. We had fought with a vision and had been able to achieve the target", the Oikay Mancha convener said.
"We will have to further be united to fight against corruption and crimes, and the conscious people will have to work from their respective positions to make the people aware in this connection", he added.
Chaired by Kazi Habib, a Gono Forum member, the meeting was addressed, among others, by its General Secretary Saifuddin Ahmed Manik, Abul Kashem and SM Altaf Hossain.
