Speakers criticise govt for not executing CHT peace treaty
10/30/2005

CHITTAGONG, Oct 29 (BDNEWS): Politicians, academics and tribal leaders at a seminar Saturday castigated BNP- led four party alliance that there is not an iota of progress in executing Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) peace accord signed to end over two decades long bloody insurgency in the region.
"The peace process in CHT region has been stalled for last four years and the alliance government is now contriving a new ploy to spread communalism among the settlers and indigenous people stemming from evil design," participants told the seminar held at the city's Muslim Institute Hall organised by Awami League (AL).
SA Samad, principal secretary to the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, presented the keynote paper on "Implementation of Peace Accord in Chittagong Hill Tracts" at the seminar.
The speakers said continuation of plan is the inevitable part of the successive government, but the alliance government did not implement the peace accord terming it as black, unconstitutional and contrary to the sovereignty of the state.
Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir said the alliance government is carrying out a parallel government in CHT region with its security forces and other state machineries.
