BOGRA, Nov 15 (UNB): Down by poverty, a young housewife allegedly committed suicide after poisoning her three minor daughters to death at Jamthol village in Sariakandi upazila under Bogra district Monday night.
Police said Kazuli Begum (30), wife of day-labourer Amiruddin, poured poison into the mouths of their three daughters - Arzina (7), Sharmin (6) and Rubina (3) -- in absence of Amiruddin, leaving them dead on the spot.
Later, Kazuli took her own life by taking poison.
Amiruddin, who could not buy enough food for his family members, as there was no work in the char these days, found the bodies of his wife and children when he returned home at night.
Police recovered the bodies Tuesday afternoon.
A pall of gloom descended on the impoverished village following the incident. A UD case was filed.
