Gary Lye new COO of Asia Energy
FE Report
11/16/2005

The UK-based Asia Energy PLC has announced the appointment of Gary Lye to its Board as Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Company to facilitate commencement of mining at Phulbari Coal Project.
Lye has been working on the feasibility study for open pit mining of the Phulbari coal deposit in north-west Bangladesh for the past two years. He is currently Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Asia Energy PLC's subsidiary, Asia Energy Corporation (Bangladesh) Pty Ltd, and will continue to maintain this position.
"Gary's promotion reflects the key role he has played in producing the feasibility studies for the Phulbari Coal Project," said David Lenigas, Asia Energy PLC's joint Managing Director.
"He will bring to the board additional expertise in open pit mining and a focused understanding of the operational issues in Bangladesh," he added.
Exploration drilling has confirmed the resource of 572 million tonnes of high quality bituminous coal at Phulbari, and, in line with its exploration and mining contract, Asia Energy submitted a scheme of development and feasibility study for the mine to the Government of Bangladesh on 2 October 2005.
Asia Energy has also submitted a proposal to build a 500 MW coal-fired power plant at the mine site.
