Price indices on both bourses slide

          Price indices on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) as well as the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) slid Tuesday in a moderately active market.
The price indices on the DSE fell, as the losing issues outplayed the gaining ones. The trade turnover, in terms of both volume and value, however, increased on the day.
The DSE All Share Price Index closed at 1301.99 points, registering 3.29 points or 0.26 per cent fall from 1305.28 points of Monday, the previous trading day.
The DSE General Index dropped by 2.11 points or 0.12 per cent to close at 1716.89 points from 1719.00 points of the previous day.
The DSE-20 Index moved down by 6.95 points or 0.41 per cent to close at 1664.69 points from 1671.64 points.
About 2.99 million shares and debentures worth Tk 329.27 million changed hands on the day against 2.89 million shares and debentures valued at Tk 303.86 million of the previous trading day.
The price indices on the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also slipped on the day, as the losers overwhelmed the gainers.
The trade turnover, in terms of both volume and value, however, went up on the day.
The CSE All Share Price Index fell by 1.01 per cent to finish at 3416.27 points from 3451.11 points of Monday, the previous trading day.
The CSE-30 Index went down by 1.02 per cent to close at 3172.05 points from 3204.86 points.
A total of 1.70 million shares and debentures worth Tk 62.91 million changed hands on the day against the previous day's 1.32 million shares and debentures valued at Tk 56.58 million of the previous day.
A total of 79 issues were traded on the day. Of them, 16 gained, 60 lost grounds and three remained unchanged.
Summit Power was the top gaining issue and trade turnover, in terms of value, on the day. Its price rose by 166.96 per cent to close at Tk 373.75 from Tk 140.00. Some 55,200 of its shares valued at Tk 19.56 million were transacted on the day.
Beximco Knitting was the top losing issue on the day. The price of the issue decreased by 19.07 per cent to close at Tk 30.75 from Tk 38.00. Its 1,200 shares worth Tk 38,150.00 changed hands on the day.
Daffodil Computer was a significant trade turnover leader, in terms of value, with its 365,000 shares valued at Tk 5.45 million being transacted on the day. The price of the issue gained by 7.74 per cent to close at Tk 15.30 from Tk 14.20.
Lafarge Surma Cement was a major performer on the day. Its 9,800 shares worth Tk 4.13 million changed hands on the day. The price of the issue dropped by 1.92 pere cent to close at Tk 421.25 from Tk 429.50.
