Crowded sanctuaries in India's northeast to relocate 30 rhinos

          GUWAHATI, (India), Nov 20: Indian wildlife authorities have decided to relocate about 30 endangered one-horned rhinoceros from two overcrowded sanctuaries in the northeastern state of Assam, state officials said Sunday. According to the state's most recent wildlife census, 2,000 of India's estimated 2,400 rhinos roam the thick savannah grasslands of Assam, with the Kaziranga National Park in eastern Assam housing more than 1,600--AFP.
Gunmen shoot and wound Christian couple in Indonesia's Sulawesi
JAKARTA, Nov 20 (AFP): Masked gunmen shot and wounded a Christian couple in the latest violence to hit the restive Indonesian province of Central Sulawesi, police and a hospital official said Sunday. A lecturer at the state Tadulako university and his wife were shot at around 7:45 pm Saturday (1145 GMT) while on their way home from a church service in the provincial capital Palu -- AFP.
Nepal ex-PM appeals to Maoists to join political mainstream
KATHMANDU, Nov 20: Nepal's veteran former prime minister GP Koirala said Saturday he has appealed to Maoist rebels to ally with mainstream parties to restore democracy in the insurgency-racked nation. King Gyanendra sacked the coalition government in February and seized power in a move he said was aimed at stemming the Maoist revolt--AFP.
Eight dead in Russian airplane crash
MOSCOW, Nov 20: Eight people were killed when a small airplane crashed in the Moscow region, officials at the Domodedovo airport said early Sunday. Six passengers and two pilots were on board the plane bound from the southern city of Voronezh to Moscow, but air controllers lost contact with the plane before it should have arrived at the Moscow Domodedovo airport, Domodedovo press service said in a statement--AFP.
France gives aid agencies special grant for Pakistan quake relief
ISLAMABAD, Nov 20: France announced Sunday 6.5 million euros (7.6 million dollars) in special grants for international aid agencies working in Pakistan's quake-ravaged north. French Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy made the announcement during a visit to a medical complex in the capital Islamabad where he met people injured in the October 8 quake and the doctors treating them--AFP.
Polluted river water in China
poisons 34 people

BEIJING, Nov 20: Thirty-four people in China's southern Guangdong province were taken to hospital suffering stomach pains and vomiting after drinking poisoned water from a local river, state media reported Sunday. Investigations showed mineral processing factories upstream had contaminated the river in Yingde city, the Xinhua news agency reported without giving further details. Meanwhile:Seven miners have been killed and another seven are missing after a coal mine flooded in north China's Hebei province, state media reported Sunday--AFP.
