Newly appointed State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir Sunday said he would make sincere efforts to turn the national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines into a profitable organisation, reports BSS.
Talking to newsmen on the first working day of his new assignment, he said if we perform our responsibilities with honesty and sincerity, we will be able to do everything,
About his mission he said," I have a two - point agenda at the moment. One is short -term and the other is long-term. But my priority is to ensure smooth transportation of the hajj pilgrims on an urgent basis.
Elaborating his long-term agenda, the minister said the country's tourism sector has huge potential and if we could exploit it, we would be able to develop the sector side by side with making Bangladesh Biman a profit earning organisation.
Regarding hajj flight crisis Alamgir said, " The problem has already been solved as the Bangladesh Biman Board has re-fixed the air fare for non- ballottee Hajj pilgrims at US $1,050 instead of earlier US $ 1,150 ending the impasse with Hajj Agencies Associations of Bangladesh (HAAB)".
On alleged irregularities in Biman Bangladesh, he said that he would look into everything in question and ensure transparency through discussions with all concerned.
Earlier in the morning, Alamgir visited the mazar of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman and placed floral wreath at the grave. He also offered fateha and munajat at the mazar.
It may be mentioned Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has replaced Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin last Thursday.
