Disbursement of EEF loan not stopped: BB Governor
11/29/2005

Bangladesh Bank Governor Salehuddin Ahmed Monday said that the disbursement of credits through the Equity and Entrepreneurship Fund (EEF) had not been stopped rather an assessment was being done prior to sanction of new loans, reports BDNEWS.
"We did not close down loan disbursement from the fund rather we are sanctioning loans cautiously so that the real entrepreneurs can get the opportunity and help increase employment," Salehuddin told the reporters replying to a query on the sideline of the micro credit conference.
"The BB is evaluating the entrepreneurs prior to sanction of loans whether the genuine and innovative investors are getting the opportunity," he said.
"We are also disbursing from the fund to some entrepreneurs based on potentials of their projects," he said.
Sources at the BB said the disbursement of new loans from the EEF fund was stopped on August 9 this year. The BB is not entertaining any new proposal now, the sources added.
"We are releasing fund for the previously approved proposals," a BB official said. Moreover, the previous proposals are being evaluated based on a new guideline, which was approved recently by the BB, he said.
The BB, earlier, constituted a fund of Tk 3.0 billion to encourage investment in three sectors like agro-based, food processing and software development industries.
