A High Court bench Monday made four separate petitions filed by former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and others seeking extension of the stay orders in the Mig-29s corruption cases out of the cause list of hearing, reports BDNEWS. After hearing the petitions, a division bench of the High Court comprising Justice Khademul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Emdadul Haque Azad passed the order. The court told the counsels for the petitioners that they could have mentioned the matters before the Appellate Division when a division bench of the High Court had made the petitions out of cause list earlier. "You did not mention the matters in the Appellate Division after the division bench had rejected the petitions. You can now go to the Appellate Division," it observed. On November 23, a High Court bench comprising Justice Sharifuddin Chaklader and Justice AFM Ali Asgar has unlisted seven separate petitions, filed by Sheikh Hasina and six others seeking quashment from corruption charges in purchasing Mig-29s, from hearing. Apart from Sheikh Hasina, Air Commodore (rtd) Mirza Akhter Faruk, Air Vice-Marshal (rtd) Jamaluddin Ahmed and Mohammad Hossain Sherniyabat Monday filed the petitions seeking extension on the stay order in these cases. The High Court earlier stayed the proceedings of the cases pending in the trial court. The tenure of the stay order expired on November 23. The corruption case was filed against Sheikh Hasina and Air Commodore (rtd) Mirza Akhter Faruk, Air Vice-Marshal (rtd) Jamaluddin Ahmed, Syed Yusuf Hossain, Mohammad Noor Ali, M Hossain Sherniyabat and General (rtd) Mustafizur Rahman, and others with Tejgaon police station on December 11, 2001.
