Knitwear owners to seek govt fund for reviving sick units
Refayet Ullah Mirdha
12/25/2005

Knitwear entrepreneurs will seek fund from the government for reviving their sick units for production.
The knitwear factory owners said they will send a written proposal to the finance ministry soon for financial help.
"Finance Minister M Saifur Rahman has agreed in principles to give us the fund for reviving the sick knitwear industries," said the president of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) Fazlul Hoque while talking to the FE.
The finance minister assured the entrepreneurs at the inaugural session of the second international knitwear exposition held recently at a city hotel of providing cash incentive to revive their sick factories.
When asked Hoque said currently, the number of sick knitwear units is 60 in the country.
He, however, said most of the entrepreneurs in this sector are transforming their industrial units into composite mills,
He said a 38 per cent growth of this sector is huge and there are more investors waiting with big investment.
Hoque hoped the knit sector will witness more growth due to the government's latest move on opening up of the Benapole Land Port (BLP) for yarn imports.
When the sick knitwear industrial units will go into operation the textile sub-sector will grow more, he clamed.
