RANGPUR, Dec 24 (BSS): Drying up of Brahmaputra, Teesta rivers and other tributaries in the Brahmaputra basin is seriously affecting navigation, irrigation and ecology in the northern districts. Official sources said water flow in the Teesta has reduced to the minimum causing the appearance of hundreds of shoals and chars on its beds. The situation has been created due to the unilateral withdrawal of water of the international river by the Indian authorities through their Gozaldoba Barrage in the upstream. Meanwhile, water level of the Brahmaputra has marked an all- time fall at all points in Kurigram and Gaibandha districts. The river has been divided into 10 to 20 smaller and narrower channels in most points with flowing water depths being between 0.5 m to 3 m.
