London stock market set for quiet post-Christmas trade
12/26/2005

LONDON, Dec 25 (AFP): The British stock market will look to build on strong gains during a shortened three-day trading week after Christmas.
At the end of half-day trading Friday, the FTSE 100 index of leading shares closed at 5,595.4 points, a jump of 1.15 per cent or 63.8 points, from the previous week.
Earlier Friday, London's FTSE 100 hit 5,608.2 points-the highest point since July 2001.
That level marked an increase of around 17.0 per cent from a year earlier.
The London Stock Exchange re-opens for business Wednesday and Thursday this week, while next Friday's trading was due to close at lunchtime ahead of the New Year holiday weekend.
No British companies were scheduled to release results data this week, while the economic data calendar was also empty.
