12/7/2005

A ten-day fair of diversified jute products starts on Bangladesh Shishu Academy premises today (Wednesday).
Jute Diversification Promotion Centre (JDPC) is organising the fair this year for the second time with the assistance of Ministry of Textiles and Jute.
The fair is aiming at popularising and ensuring diversified uses of jute and familiarising new jute-made products among the potential consumers.
Another very significant aspect of organising such a fair is to educate and motivate general people to use environment-friendly and bio-degradable jute products for diversified uses in everyday life instead of using artificial fibre-made products which are threatening environment.

Abdullah said this year many jute products for diversified uses will be exhibited.
Main attraction of this year's products will be ornaments made of jute sticks for women, slipper, different kinds of hand-made paper products, visiting card, invitation card, polythene-substitute jute bags for diversified uses.
The jute products also include school bag, shopping bag, vanity bag, pillow cover, sofa cover, different types of home textiles, hat for different age groups and of different choices, jute-silk- cotton mixed apparels of different qualities and colours.
This year nine basic industries will take part in the fair.
These basic industries are Sonali, Janata, Pubali, Skylane and Fam, Aziz Fiber and Belting, Keranigonj Jute Mill, Anwar Fiber Ltd and Madina Jute Ltd.
All these jute mills are involved in producing basic jute products.
Apart from basic industries, different NGOs involved in producing diversified jute items including Partex will showcase their jute products to attract consumers and expand their market share both at home and abroad.
