European stocks rise in early deals
12/7/2005

LONDON, Dec 6 (AFP): European stock exchanges advanced Tuesday amid news that British TV network ITV had snapped up schools reunion website Friends Reunited, but miners suffered on forecasts of weaker global demand for iron.
Investors were also absorbing British finance minister Gordon Brown's halving of his official economic growth target this year to 1.75 per cent.
London's FTSE 100 index of leading shares rose 0.18 per cent to 5,520.20 points, Frankfurt's DAX 30 gained 0.60 per cent to 5,298.56 points and in Paris the CAC 40 won 0.43 per cent to 4,670.49.
The DJ Euro Stoxx 50 index of leading eurozone shares increased by 0.35 per cent to 3,511.64 points.
The euro stood at 1.1767 dollars.
The share price of ITV rose 0.69 per cent to 109.5 pence after Britain's biggest commercial TV network said it had bought Friends Reunited for 175 million pounds (258 million euros, 304 million dollars) from founders and employees of the schools reunion website.
The deal comprises an immediate payment in cash and shares worth 120 million pounds and a further 55 million pounds during 2009 depending on profit levels, the media group said.
