Call for urgent govt steps to save CP from land-sharks
Our Correspondent

CHITTAGONG, Feb 10: The Chittagong Port (CP) Auth\ority has made a call upon the government to take an urgent measure for saving the Chittagong port as the land-sharks are trying to encroach upon the 'chars' and surrounding areas in the river Karnaphuli.
Besides, their activities, which are polluting the river water, are also leading to the extinction of fish resources, CP sources said.
Meanwhile, a large number of government and private organisations have captured a vast portion of the river Karnaphuli which plays a significant role in flourishing the national economy.
But for different reasons the Chittagong Port Authority has failed to resist these evil-doers who have already encroached upon 50-kilometre long marine route of the port city.
As the trend still continues, the CP, which is the life-blood of the national economy, has come under a threat.
But no positive initiative has yet been taken to resist the land-grabbers for saving the river Karnaphuli from further encroachment.
It is feared that if the government does not take punitive action against these land-grabbers the very existence of the Karnaphuli will be at stake.
