Pakistan, France formalise cooperation for exchange of knowledge, skills in garment industries
2/12/2006

PARIS, Feb 11 (APP): Pakistan and French Federation has decided to formalise the cooperation and collaboration for exchange of knowledge, skills and promotion of business between the French and Pakistan's garment industries.
An agreement in this connection was signed by Pakistan's Secretary Commerce Syed Asif Shah and Chairman of the French Federation for Ready-to-Wear Women Garments Jean-Pierre Mocho here the other day at the residence of Pakistan's Ambassador in the presence of the major French textile and garment Associations.
The agreement envisages a programme for development of Pakistan School of Fashion Design into a modern international fashion marketing Institute, which could support and prepare Pakistan's garments industry for the international market.
The agreement creates links between Pakistan and French garment industries for exchange of information, awareness raising, exchange of delegations, seminars etc.
Mod'Spe, (a French fashion School) and Pakistan School of Fashion Design (PSFD), Lahore are implementing a programme for the next two years through which Mod'Spe will provide marketing and merchandising skills to the graduates of PSFD.
Pakistan's Secretary Commerce Asif Shah, in his address, said it is indeed a milestone agreement that lays the foundation for institutional cooperation among the technical institutions and garment industries of France and Pakistan.
He said the Pakistan is one of the major cotton producing countries and over the years there has been substantial investment in the textile industry.
"Our aim now is to move towards the next level of value addition and strengthen our garment industry," he added.
He also highlighted the significance of the agreement in the textile quota-free environment.
Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan's Ambassador Aneesuddin Ahmed noted the potential that could be realised though this agreement as the mutually complimentary roles for reinforcing the competencies of Pakistan and France in the textile field that 'are manifest'.
