Holy Ashura observed amid religious fervour
2/12/2006

The holy Ashura commemorating the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA), grandson of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SM), was observed in the country Friday with religious solemnity, reports BDNEWS.
On this day in the Hijri year 61, Hazrat Imam Hossain (RA), along with the members of his family and close relations, embraced martyrdom at the hands of Yazid's forces in the desert of Karbala to uphold the cause of Islam and the teachings of the Prophet (SM).
President Iajudin Ahmed, Prime Minister Khaleda Zia and the Leader of the Opposition Sheikh Hasina, in separate messages, said the supreme sacrifice of Hazarat Imam Hossain (RA) in Karbala teaches us to search for truth and establish justice in every sphere of life.
Different religious organisations and political groups have observed the day through holding discussions and bringing out Tazia processions in the capital and elsewhere in the country.
At noon a huge Tazia procession was brought out in the capital.
Bangladesh Betar, Bangladesh Television and private TV channels aired special programmes marking the day.
