Two extremist leaders die
2/16/2006

Two extremist leaders have been killed in separate incidents; one in Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) 'crossfire' in Jhenaidah and the other allegedly by his rivals in Pabna, reports BDNEWS.
A top extremist leader of banned extremist organisation the Purba Banglar Communist Party was killed in RAB 'crossfire' at Bherakhali under Harinakundu Upazila of Jhenaidah.
The deceased Shahidul Islam (35) hailed from Tior Bila village under Alamdanga Upazila of Chuadanga and was accused in seven cases including four murder charges.
RAB-6 arrested Shahidul Tuesday evening and following his confessional statement RAB conducted another drive Tuesday night at Bherakhali village under Harinakundu along with Shahidul to nab his accomplices and unearth their hidden arms.
RAB said when they reached Bherakhali village, the ambushed accomplices of Shahidul opened fire on them to snatch away their leader and RAB retaliated.
RAB claimed that Shahidul tried to flee and was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot.
In another incident at Dhanuaghata Bazar under Chatmohor Upazila of Pabna, extremist leader and second-in-command of Selim Bahini, Rakibul Islam Rakib (35) hailing from Islampur village under Ataikula Thana of Pabna was gunned down allegedly by his rival extremists in a tea stall in his village.
