Rajshahi jointly share top slot with holders Dhaka

          Rajshahi Division jointly shared the top slot with holders Dhaka Division in the four-day match of the Ispahani Mirzapore Tea 7th National Cricket League beating Dhaka Division by 218 runs at the Rajshahi Divisional Stadium (RDVS) Saturday, reports UNB.
This was the first defeat for Dhaka Division in the four-day matches of the ongoing national league.
With this result, Rajshahi Division, which is maintaining solo lead in the one-day matches, share the top slot in the four-day matches with Dhaka Division collecting 20 points, both playing five matches.
At the RDVS, leading by 226 runs in their 2nd innings, Rajshahi Division resumed the 3rd day with the overnight score of 120 runs for two wickets in 37 overs and were all out for 242 runs in 75.4 overs.
Overnight batsman Farhad Hossain who was batting with 46 runs added another 11 to score 57 runs off 109 balls that featured seven fours to be adjudged man of the match.
Another overnight Naeem Islam made another 44 to contribute 50 runs off 116 balls including eight fours.
Pacer Mohammad Sharif claimed four wickets for 76 runs in 22.4 overs while Talha Jubair and Shahadat Hossain Razib took two wickets each.
Chasing a target of 348 runs in their 2nd innings, Dhaka Division was forced to fold their innings at 130 runs by some tight bowlings.
Number four Al Shahriar scored team highest 40 runs off 47 balls featuring eight fours while tail-ender Shahadat Hossain Razib made 23 off 23 balls with one four and two sixes.
Medium pacer Mushfiqur Rahman Babu captured four wickets for 23 runs in 10 overs while Safaq Al Zabir grabbed three wickets for 35 runs in 10 overs.
Earlier, Rajshahi Division scored 283 runs in their 1st innings while Dhaka Division made 177 in their 1st innings.
Brief score: Rajshahi Division 1st innings - 283 for all in 80.5 overs, 2nd innings - 242 runs for all in 75.4 overs, Zahirul 60, Farhad Hossain 57, Naeem Islam 50, Kamrul Hasan 31, Sharif 4/76, Talha Jubair 2/39 and Shahadat Razib 2/58.
Dhaka Division 1st innings - 177 for all in 59.5 overs, 2nd innings - 130 runs for all in 43.4 overs, Al Shariar 40, Shahadat Razib 23, Mahmudullah 16, Mushfiqur Rahman 4/23, Safaq Jabir 3/35 and Kamrul 2/8.
In another match at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium (DCS), Barisal Division was also responding well against Chittagong Division's mammoth 1st innings total of 471 runs when the bails were drawn for the 3rd day.
Earlier, Barisal Division resumed the day with overnight score of 84 runs for no wickets in 32 overs and finished the day at 319 runs for seven in 127 overs.
Two openers -- Imran Ahmed and Hannan Sarkar -- put up a first wicket stand of 149 runs to ensure the smooth run of Barisal Division.
Hannan contributed 91 runs off 211 balls that featured 10 fours and one six while Imran made 63 off 163 balls including eight fours.
Middle order Humayun Kabir (54), Nasiruddin Faruq (32) and Nadif Chowdhury (23) were the other notable scorers.
Tauhid Hossain and Arafat Salahuddin were at the crease with 32 and 4 runs respectively.
Yasin Arafat captured three wickets for 59 runs in 36 overs while Sabbir Khan and Raihanuddin took one wicket apiece.
Brief score: Chittagong Division 1st innings - 471 for all in 147.2 overs, Sezan 114, Masumuddowla 80, Gazi Salahuddin 69, Nazimuddin 60, Wasseluddin 34, Dhiman 34, Nadif 4/70, Sajid 2/79, Humayun 1/15 and Arafat 1/57.
Barisal Division 1st innings - 319 runs for 7 in 127 overs, Hannan 91, Imran 63, Humayun 54, Nasiruddin 32, Nadif 23, Tauhid batting 32, Arafat Salahuddin batting 4, Yasin Arafat 3/59, Sabbir 1/57 and Raihanuddin 1/105.
