Govt evovles strategy to lure foreign investment thru’ image-lift
2/25/2005

A draft on a long-term strategy plan to brighten country's image to draw increased foreign investment is expected to be finalised next week, officials said Wednesday.
"The draft report of the high-powered Bangladesh Strategy Country Promotion Council will be placed before Prime Minister Khaleda Zia early next month for approval," Director General (DG) of External Publicity (EP) Wing, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Zahirul Haque told BSS.
He said the Council, with Foreign Minister M Morshed Khan in the chair, would highlight the country's vision, promotional objectives, scopes, framework and strategy for implementation, monitoring mechanism, evaluation and an outline of a tentative budget to project the true picture of Bangladesh abroad.
His comments came as the Council, comprising officials, experts and private sector representatives, held its second meeting Wednesday with Foreign Minister Khan in the chair to review the draft six months after it met first on August 18 last year.
The DG EP also said Bangladesh Strategy Country Promotion Council in its draft will also make recommendation for branding Bangladesh similar to that of Malaysia whose nationals call their country "Truly Asia" or like the Maldivians who describe the island state as "Sunnyside of Life".
The meeting, held at the office of Board of Investment (BOI) was joined by its members-- Executive Chairman of Privatisation Commission Enam Ahmed Chowdhury, member-secretary of the Council and BOI Executive Chairman Mahmudur Rahman, Information Secretary Jafar Ahmed Chowdhury, Foreign Chamber President Mahbub Jamil, Metropolitan Chamber President Kutubuddin Ahmed, the executive chairman of Bangladesh Export Processing Zone and the vice chairman of Export Promotion Bureau.
