MARKET & COMMODITIES

weekly tea market
Dusts get stronger market at dearer rates
FE Report
2/26/2006

Dusts were a stronger market at mostly dearer rates. The bulk of the teas were end of season in quality and a few remaining cleaner teas that were available met with a strong demand and prices for those appreciated further. Poor teas although initially sold readily, were difficult of sale towards the end as there were very heavy withdrawals. Pakistan buyers continued to operate strongly on cleaner lines whilst there was fairly good support from Afghanistan. Internal Loose tea buyers and Blenders operated actively.
CTC LEAF: 30,918 bags, and 1,301 c/s, on offer continued to meet with a strong demand.
BROKENS: The few clean Brokens on offer were a dearer market following competition and appreciated by Tk.3.00 to Tk.5.00 and these could be quoted between Tk.88 and Tk.95. The browner varieties met with a more selective demand, the cleaner types being generally dearer whilst other varieties were mostly easier by Tk.1.00 to Tk.2.00 with some withdrawals. Poor end of season types met with a less demand particularly towards the close and there were substantial withdrawals in this category.
FANNINGS: A handful of clean Fannings available were strongly competed for and appreciated by Tk.4.00 to Tk.10.00 and prices for these ranged between Tk.90 and Tk.100. Below best were a good market and were generally firm to being occasionally dearer and these could be quoted between Tk.84 and Tk.88. Medium types were generally a strong market and were often dearer by Tk.1.00 to Tk.2.00. Poor plain end of season types were in less demand particularly towards the close and often registered a downward trend with fair withdrawals.
CTC DUST: 5,052 bags, and 222 c/s, on offer met with a strong demand. A few good liquoring types were fully firm to slightly dearer whilst Medium types sold at around last levels easing slightly in line with quality. Poor liquoring end of season types were keenly competed for and were a dearer market. Internal market lent a good support.
