Spl anti-militancy programme to mark Independence Day
2/27/2006

The Religious Affairs Ministry will arrange a special programme against Islamic militancy on the occasion of the country's Independence Day on March 26, reports BDNEWS.
This was decided Sunday at an inter-ministerial meeting at the home ministry on celebration of the Independence Day with State Minister for Home Lutfozzaman Babar in the chair, according to the sources at the Home Ministry.
Different ministries will arrange symbolic display of their achievements in the Independence Day march-past to be held at the National Parade Ground.
Similar arrangement will be made in other parts of the capital to let people know about the achievements in past 35 years.
The meeting decided that the ministries would arrange the symbolic displays with their own fund, as no allocation was made from the finance ministry in this connection, sources said.
Earlier in 1977-78, the government had taken similar programme to display the achievements of the government with video footages and by other means.
The march-past will be telecast live through radio and television. LCD monitors will be set up at various points in the city to enable people to witness the programme on large screens.
Prof Rezaul Karim, state minister for Liberation War Affairs, secretaries of different ministries and top officials of the law-enforcing agencies attended the meeting.
