Four gunned down in city
2/8/2006

Two daylabourers died and another fell sick inhaling poisonous gas while cleaning a manhole in the city's Hazaribagh area Tuesday morning, reports BDNEWS.
The deceased were identified as Keramat Ali (38) and Sanwar Sikder (28) -- both hailed from village Basudebpur in Gouranadi Upazila of Barisal.
The unidentified sick man was rushed to the Mitford Hospital immediately.
According to local people, police and fire brigade sources, the incident took place at around 11-30 am when the day labourers were cleaning the manhole at Rayerbazar Tali Office. At one stage of cleaning, three labourers became sick after inhaling poisonous gas of the manhole. Of them two died on the spot.
Hearing the news, fire fighters rushed to the spot and recovered the ill-fated bodies and the sick man.
Meanwhile, unidentified criminals sprayed bullets on a group of people at a brick and sand shop in the city's Badda area killing four and injuring two others Tuesday evening.
The deceased were identified as Alauddin (28) son of Aziz Safaruddin, Tajul Islam, son of Aftabuddin, of Badda, Masum (30), son of Amir Hossain of Merul Badda and Rubel (31).
Critically injured Kamrul (23) and Jamal Uddin (40) were rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
The killing of four people in a single incident by criminals in the city is one of the most dreadful incidents in recent times.
According to police and medical sources, the incident took place at around 5-30pm when the victims were chatting sitting inside the brick and sand shop at South Badda Shimultola.
The criminal gang, equipped with deadly weapons appeared on the spot and opened fire on the people at the shop from close range killing the two on the spot. Two others were declared dead at the DMCH.
The criminals left the place unhindered as none dared to chase them.
The motive behind the brutal murders could not be known immediately.
