JMB plans to attack Indian embassy?
2/8/2006

KOLKATA, Feb 7: Female suicidal squad of the banned Islamist militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) is reportedly planning to attack the Indian embassy in Dhaka, report agencies.
Besides, the squad is also taking preparations to attack important establishments of India and the US in West Bengal.
The detective branch of the West Bengal in a crucial report placed to the Director General of Police, Suvash Chandra, said the Pakistan Intelligence Agency (ISI) is cooperating with them in implementing the whole plan.
The leading Indian Bangla daily Anandbazar Patrika in a report in this connection Tuesday said that the JMB recently formed the female unit, including the suicidal squad.
The report said Major Shovan of ISI is supervising the training of the squad at Chhagharia Mahila Qaomi Madrasa in Satkhira. Maolana Abdul Khaleq of Jamaat-e-Islami is providing necessary fund.
Detective branch officials predict that the Bangladeshi sex workers of different brothels in West Bengal could be allured in joining such squad by providing them with money.
The Anandabazar Patrika report mentioned that the JMB members held a crucial meeting recently at Dangapara Alia Madrasa under Hakimpur Upazila in Dinajpur with 75 militants attending it.
At the meeting with Pakistani citizen Mohammad Logim in the chair necessary directives were given to send several teams to West Bengal to carry out attacks.

Nine JMB men held with arms

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested nine members of the banned militant outfit Jama'tul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from two separate drives at Sayedpur and Kazipara in Nilphamari district early Tuesday. During the operation, they also recovered arms and huge amount of bomb making materials.
According to sources, the RAB teams conducted drives in Rangpur, Gaibandha and Kurigram districts in the last few days suspecting the presence of Shura member Hafez Mahmud, one of the top JMB think tanks.
"Sensing danger, Hafez Mahmud somehow managed to escape the arrest," RAB sources said.
