Maulana Mannan laid to rest

          Former Religious Affairs Minister and founder of the daily Inqilab Maulana MA Mannan was laid to rest at Mahakhali Gausul Azam Complex on Tuesday.
He died of old-age ailments at his Banani residence in the city Monday morning.
Maulana Mannan left behind his wife, four sons and one daughter and a host of relatives to mourn his death.
The Namaz-e-Janaza for Maulana Mannan was held after Asr prayers Tuesday at Mahakhali Gausul Azam Complex.
Maulana Mannan was born in March 1935 in an aristocratic family in Keroa village under Faridganj Upazila in Chandpur district.
He was elected member of provincial assembly in 1962 in the then East Pakistan and was also elected secretary general of East Pakistan Muslim League in 1968.
Winning huge votes in the 1979 national election, Mannan was elected member of parliament (MP). In 1981 he was appointed state minister for Education in the cabinet of President Justice Sattar. MA Mannan was again elected MP in 1986 and was appointed minister for Religious Affairs.
