Twelve Turkish tourists die in accident in Rome
2/8/2006

ROME, Feb 7 (AFP): Twelve Turkish tourists died and 20 others were injured when their coach plunged into a ravine in Rome late Monday, rescue workers said.
The coach was carrying 31 Turkish nationals in Rome for a conference organized by American auto group Ford for its dealers. The Turkish contingent numbered nearly 350 people, first reports said.
The vehicle was on the road leading down from Monte Mario, one of the Italian capital's hills, near the Vatican, when for an unknown reason its driver failed to negotiate a turn and it plunged into the ravine.
A passing driver and nearby residents raised the alarm following the accident shortly before midnight.
The coach did not brake and hit a barrier before plunging into a garden. It came to rest practically vertical.
