MANILA, Feb 7 (AFP): The heads of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are postponing a visit to a rebel-held area of Sri Lanka, an ADB statement said Tuesday. The bank said the visit would be rescheduled to take place after peace talks announced Monday aimed at ending decades of ethnic bloodshed. The talks are to be open in Geneva on February 22. Recent months have seen an upsurge in attacks by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, who occupy the northern town of Kilinochchi. "Much hope rests on a successful outcome at the Geneva talks and the agencies did not want to undertake anything that might have a negative impact on the buildup to this event," the Manila-based ADB said.
