MARKET & COMMODITIES

tea market
Less demand from all sections of the market buyers
FE Report
3/1/2006

There was much less demand from all sections of the market particularly from Export buyers. As a result, prices for all types declined particularly the poorer types which mostly proved difficult of sale. Pakistan buyers were quiet. Afghan buyers were selective. Blenders lent less support along with the Loose tea Trade. Withdrawals in this sale were the heaviest in this season. Good liquoring Dusts were a strong market.
CTC LEAF: 24,808 bags, and 1,055 c/s, on offer met with less demand with many withdrawals.
BROKENS: A handful of clean Brokens available met with a fairly good demand and generally eased by Tk.3.00 to Tk.5.00 and these sold between Tk.84 and Tk.90. Browner varieties were also easier by Tk.3.00 to Tk.5.00 with quite substantial withdrawals. Poor end of season types were generally neglected.
FANNINGS: A few clean Fannings met with a fairly good market but generally eased by Tk.2.00 to Tk.3.00 and these could be quoted between Tk.85 and Tk.95. Below best also declined and these sold between Tk.79 and Tk.83. Medium and Plainer types were in less demand particularly the latter where there were heavy withdrawals.
CTC DUST: 3,143 bags, and 188 c/s, on offer met with a good demand. Select lines of well made good liquoring types were fully firm to slightly dearer following competition. Others were mostly an easier market in line with quality. Poor liquoring end of season types met with less demand at easier rates.
