East-West Airlines to launch int'l flights from Dhaka soon
FE Report
3/12/2006

East-West Airlines Limited is going to launch its international flight operations linking Dhaka with Kolkata, Delhi, Nepal, Mayanmar, Bangkok and Singapore soon. Besides Dhaka, it has a plan to operate flights from Chittagong and Sylhet also.
The airlines, a sister concern of the Orion Group, has undertaken the official process for necessary approvals from the government for operating these flights.
Malaysia's Air Asia Barhad will provide all necessary supports to East-West Air regarding the initiatives.
Air Asia Chief Group Deputy CEO Kamruddin informed all these in an opinion-exchanging meeting with the journalists, in the city recently.
Earlier, he came to Bangladesh on a visit to explore the possibilities of a joint venture in the local aviation market, in association with the East-West Airlines.
Among others, East-West Air CEO Kazi Mujibul Hoque and Orion Group Director Salman Obaidul Karim were also present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, East-West Airlines has obtained the Provisional Air Transport Operating Licence (PATOL), with regard to operating domestic and international flights, under the government's open sky policy.
Its initiatives of being associated with the Air Asia will contribute to bringing direct investment and helping technology transfer from abroad, which are likely to be a great leap forward for the country's aviation sector development.
The Air Asia Group started operation in Malaysia and presently had expanded its services to Thailand and Indonesia. It now has a fleet of 39 aircraft flying 64 destinations, operating 100 flights a day, including both domestic and international. Air Asia has also undertaken a massive expansion programme by collecting 100 aircraft from Airlines-320.
