3/18/2006

JHENIDAH, Mar 17 (BSS): Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC) is set to become a profitable organisation as it is likely to earn about Tk 700 million (70 crore) as profit this year for the second time in last 17 years.
At a meeting of the officials of four sugar mills held here Thursday, it was informed that the BSFIC incurred huge economic losses during the last few years but it would earn a profit of nearly Tk 700 million this year.
Concerned authorities pointed out purchase of sugarcane through ready payment, timely distribution of fertilisers and pesticides as well as high-yielding saplings of sugarcane as reasons for the success being expected now, an official handout said.
They underlined the need for carrying out balancing, modernisation, rehabilitation and expansion (BMRE) in all sugar mills to further raise production in the greater interest of national economy, the handout said.
Industries Minister Motiur Rahman Nizami attended the meeting as the chief guest. He thanked the officers and employees of all sugar mills for making the BSFIC a profitable organisation.
Moshiur Rahman MP, BSFIC Chairman Qazi Aminul Islam, Director (commercial) AFM Badrudozza and managing directors of Mobarakganj Sugar Mill Sheikh Toiab Ali, Faridpur Sugar Mill Ashraf Ali, Keru and Company Ltd M Taslim Uddin Pramanik and Kushtia Sugar Mill Mozammel Huq, among others, also attended the meeting.
