Marubeni to buy Indonesian coal mines

          TOKYO, Mar 18: Japan's Marubeni Corp and its local partners are in the final stages of negotiations to acquire two coal-mining firms in Indonesia from PT Bumi Resources Tbk for about 3.2 billion dollars, a report said Saturday. The consortium, led by Indonesian firm Renaissance Capital, plans to buy PT Arutmin Indonesia and PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC), the Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported, quoting trading house Marubeni's president Nobuo Katsumata. ---AFP

Suzlon acquires Belgian gearbox maker

NEW DELHI, Mar 18: India's Suzlon Energy yesterday said it had acquired Belgium's gearbox maker Hansen Transmissions for 565 million dollars in one of the biggest foreign takeovers by an Indian firm. Suzlon is the world's sixth-largest wind turbine maker, with operations in Australia, China, Europe, India, South Korea and the United States. Hansen has a capacity to produce 3,600 MW of wind turbine gearboxes and 3,000 units of industrial gearboxes annually. ---AFP

Canada's nat'l net worth reaches $3.9 trillion in '05

OTTAWA, Mar 18: Canada's national net worth reached 4.5 trillion Canadian dollars (about 3.9 trillion US (dollars) by the end of 2005, or roughly 137,300 Canadian dollars about 118,531 US dollars) per person, Statistics Canada said yesterday. Net worth rose by 60.4 billion Canadian dollars (about 52.1 billion US dollars) in the fourth quarter, as Canadian individual and companies squirreled more savings away. --- Xinhua

Best tourism state award to Kerala

NEW DELHI, Mar 18: Famous for its backwaters and scenic beauty, Kerala yesterday received 'best tourism state' award while the 'best hotel' awards were bagged by Oberoi's Amarvilla in Agra and the Taj Residency in Bangalore. Besides winning the best performing tourist state award for outstanding achievements in the tourism sector, Kerala also won 'best maintained tourism friendly monuments' award for its Sakthan Thampuran Palace. ---PTI
