Govt to bring sedition charges against Shaekh, Siddiqul: Babar
3/7/2006

State Minister for Home Lutfozzaman Babar said the government would bring sedition charges against all militants including Shaekh Abdur Rahman and Siddiqul Islam Bangla Bhai, report agencies.
The minister was speaking at a press conference at the conference room of the Home Ministry on Monday following the capture of self-styled JMB operations commander Bangla Bhai.
Charge sheets of all cases against the militants will be pressed within a short period of time, he said.
The State Minister said the powerful intelligence network and all out supports of the people led to the captures of most of the militant operatives of JMB including its chief Shaekh Abdur Rahman and his second-in-command Bangla Bhai.
The government intelligence agencies have shattered the network of the Islamist militants, he said, adding that drive to arrest the remaining JMB militants would continue.
The trials of the militants will be held under the existing rules and laws of the country within a short period of time, Babar told the journalists.
Fanaticism and militancy is not only a problem in Bangladesh it is visible around the globe, he observed saying that Bangladesh is trying to handle the issue with an iron hand and 'we have already succeeded'.
With an oblique reference to the opposition he said some quarters are trying to compare the issue with that of dramas but people of the country will give their judgment after taking into consideration everything.
Though the government termed Bangla Bhai as the creation of media initially the minister in the conference admitted that the news media rightly portrayed the issue in their newspapers.
