Single country exposition in June
Knit exporters eye $1.0b market in Germany
4/3/2006

A single country exposition of Bangladeshi knitwear products will be held in Germany in June next, aiming at making the knitwear export base in the European country wider, reports UNB.
Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) is organizing the fair as part of its drive to cross US$ one billion mark in export earning from the single largest destination by the next fiscal.
The three-day fair will begin June 7, sources in the BKMEA said.
The date of the fair has been deferred twice due to unavoidable circumstances.
Earlier it was scheduled for March and rescheduled for May. According to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), knitwear export from Bangladesh to Germany stood at US$ 668 million in 2004-2005 fiscal.
Germany is the single largest knitwear importer from Bangladesh.
GTZ, which is the implementing agency of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, will provide necessary supports to organize the fair.
Some 45 Bangladeshi manufacturers led by BKMEA will participate in the fair.
Bangladesh's knitwear export to Germany increased by 12 per cent during the first seven months of the current fiscal year, sources in EPB said.
