BB asks for DoE certification for import of ozone depleting items
5/14/2006

Bangladesh Bank (BB) has directed all banks not to allow the import of 96 potential ozone-depleting substances without the prior clearance from the department of environment (DoE), reports BDNEWS.
"This is a directive from the Ministry of Commerce. We want to ensure that banks are allowing imports of these items after receiving approval from the DoE," a BB senior official said.
The BB through a circular said the government has decided to prevent the use of major ozone depleting substances by 2010 referring to the framing of the Ozone Depleting Substance (Control) Rules 2004.
Noting the Statutory Regulatory Order (SRO) issued by the Ministry of Commerce in this regard, the BB said the government has introduced licensing system to control the import and the use of these items such as CFC.
